Jarden Announces Appointment of New Executive Chair

Jarden is pleased to announce the appointment of Fraser Whineray as its new Executive Chair. Mr Whineray will officially assume his role on the Jarden Group Board from 22 July 2024. His appointment follows the tenure of Bill Trotter who, after twenty-two years as Executive Chair, will transition to Director of the Board.

Commenting on the appointment, Bill Trotter said, “A new chair is crucial to guiding Jarden through its next phase, particularly as we strengthen our client focus across Australasia. Fraser is one of the most outstanding leaders I know, who will undoubtedly sustain our momentum and drive our strategic objectives forward.”

A dual citizen of New Zealand and Australia, Mr Whineray has had a distinguished three-decade executive career across various industries. He has also held / continues to hold non-executive roles for major companies in New Zealand including Tilt Renewables (2019-2020), WM New Zealand (current), Port of Tauranga and its majority owner, Quayside (current) and AgriZeroNZ (current). Jarden will be his sole executive chair role.

Mr Whineray expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating, “It is my privilege to chair an established 60-year-strong brand in New Zealand and a burgeoning player in the Australian market. I look forward to supporting Jarden’s co-CEOs, Sarah Rennie and Aidan Allen, and the entire team, in delivering unique value for our clients.”

He began his career in 1997 with CS First Boston in New Zealand, which later became Jarden. “I’m delighted to be returning to Jarden and the Australasian financial services sector. Having spent most of my career on the client side of the board table, my focus will be on helping Jarden’s clients achieve long-term success while mitigating undue risk in volatile times.”

Mr Whineray’s extensive leadership spans multiple sectors in New Zealand and internationally. His most recent roles were Chief Executive of Mercury NZ Limited and Chief Operating Officer of Fonterra Co-operative Group. In 2019, he was awarded the Deloitte 200 Chief Executive of the Year in New Zealand. He has also led delegations of Chairs and Chief Executives to the small, advanced economies of Switzerland, Denmark and Ireland. Mr Whineray’s original qualifications in chemical engineering and dairy science were followed by an MBA from Cambridge University where he currently holds a Visting Fellow honorary appointment.
